Giorgio Armani

Giorgio Armani is an Italian fashion designer who was born in 1934. Armani started his fashion journey in menswear, but soon after 1975, and until 2001, he was noted for the neat, tailored lines and declared as the most successful fashion designer who had come out of Italy.
He also was denoted to be the first designer to ban hiring models of body mass under 18 after a model starved herself to death due to some nervous disorder.
His interest in sports was a remarkable matter as, despite his age and designing suits for very famous worldwide teams, he is the president of Olimpia Milano basketball team.


Giorgio Armani’s early life started with a brother and sister, with his parents in north Italy. His basic study was medicine, as she showed interest in that field, then he became the head of the medicine department in the University of Milan.
Three years later he had to break off his study to join the army, where he experienced the hospital life that drove him to find another career.
He started a window dresser job in Milan; then he worked as menswear seller in the same store where he gained experience about clothing and marketing.
In 1960 he worked as menswear designer at Nino Cerruti. He kept designing for the same company for the next ten years, and at the same time he freelanced designs for at least ten more companies for his exquisite designed were highly demanded by the clients.
In 1973, Armani opened his own fashion designing office and worked for some time with an architectural draftsman, Sergio Galeotti, who originally suggested the idea. In the following years he experienced extensive collaboration as he kept designing for many well-known fashion houses.


In 1975, he started his own label, with the same partner and in 1976 he introduced his first spring-RTW-menswear fashion show, with a woman’s line for the same season.
Giorgio Armani was a successful fashion designer by then, but he didn’t stop at designing. Armani entered the fashion industry with Gruppo Finanzario Tessile who helped him producing luxury RTW fashion.
In 1979, Armani started his corporation and was very famous such that he produced fashion lines for the United States, and then signed an agreement with L’Oréal to create perfumes. After that, around 1982, his corporation spread to several labels; such as accessories, perfumes, cosmetics, menswear, women’s wear, swimwear, jeans, shoes, and underwear. With each line, his stores were increasing and opening in many places.
The following years, Armani expanded his work and made deals, including designing clothes for movies, and in 1985 his partner died, but he continued expanding his empire by opening branches in other countries.
In 2009, his empire extended in 37 countries with a 60 Giorgio Armani boutiques, 122 Emporio Armani stores, 94 A/X Armani Exchange stores, 13 Armani juniors, 11 Armani Collezioni and 1 store for Armani Accessories.
