Miuccia Prada is an Italian fashion designer, who owns the Prada brand, works as entrepreneur, and has a net wealth of $11.1 billion. She started her business as a successful lady who took over her family brand that was manufacturing luxury goods in 1978.
Miuccia was born in Italy, on May 10th 1949, to the same name “Miuccia Prada Bianchi”, and she has a Ph.D in political science.
She made a huge change in the family brand as she started manufacturing waterproof backpacks made of Pocone, directly after meeting her husband and future business partner, Patrizio Bertelli, in 1978.
Miuccia Prada and her husband turned a brand that made luxury goods into a big fashion house, and even more; she bought the biggest shares in brands like Jil Sander, Helmut Lang and Church & Co. Prada has now over 250 stores all over the world.
After turning the family brand into a fashion powerhouse, she was in full charge of her group, making all creative decisions and designing clothes. In 1985, she introduced a line of black women’s handbags made of woven, fine nylon. That line was instantly considered a big hit in women’s fashion, and she followed that collection by another in ready-to-wear women’s clothes in 1989 then another men’s wear collection in 1995.
Miuccia Prada introduced a new line for less expensive women’s clothing in 1992, Miu Miu, inspired by her nick name and personal wardrobe clothes.
She was always known for her unique luxury taste that collected between classic style, minimalist taste and cool comfortable fashion trends. For that, she gained the American International Award in 1993 with the prestigious council of fashion designers.
