Patchwork Quilts

The beginning of patchwork quilts was the idea of making a handmade American quilt by the countryside ladies. They started to work the quilts’ covers in patches and then stitch them together to obtain a good look. Patchwork quilts were first made with cotton layer inside, as they were mostly made for winter use. Nowadays, patchwork quilts are not only handmade crafts done by the old ladies. They are manufacture in a wide range of prints and made with fiber filling instead of cotton.
The traditional cotton patchwork quilts are still being manufactured of course, but they are not as popular as the modern quilts which are easier to use.
The prints and details on patchwork quits make them quite lovely. Making a small patched quilt for the babies is the first idea that comes to each lady instead of working a big quilt.
Thick cotton fabrics are mostly used as an outer cover of the quilt, and they should be printed or colorful in general.
Patchwork covers are also common in modern quilts. They come as stripes, squares, circles or a combination of different shapes. Stitching the different fabric pieces together is what gives a good look to the patchwork quilt. Without such feature it may look like any printed quilt, and surely it will not appear like a handmade work.
